Grief and Foster Kittens

Gus:  It is with great sadness that we have to tell you of the passing of little Ricky.  Ricky went down hill very quickly.  He was rushed to the vet Thursday morning and Friday afternoon the decision was made to humanely euthanize him.  The Mama was there with him in his final moments.

We'd like to say that it gets easier each time we lose a student but that just isn't the case.  Even though we may have only known these kittens a few days, we still grieve them.  As soon as they walk through the door, we fall in love with them.  It is ok to shed a tear or two or ten thousand for them.

Part of the grieving process includes asking what we could have done differently.  Most of the time, there isn't anything else that can be done.    These little lives are very fragile and they are often exposed to awful things before they ever come into your care.

The important thing is to remember is that they were loved until the very end and that someone was there for them in their darkest moments.  They also now have someone to wait for at the Rainbow Bridge.  Someday, when the Mama goes to heaven they will be waiting there for her.  She will hug them and kiss them and all of us will go to heaven together.
