The One

If you are lucky in life, you will find "the one".   Someone with whom your heart and soul connects.  If you are very lucky, "the one" will be a cat.  If you are extremely lucky, you will find more than one "the one".

Captain was "the one" for me so it is with mixed feelings that I tell you he was adopted today.  And no, it was not by me.

Captain went home with a great family.  I was so happy I was able to meet them.  They are a younger couple with two dogs and another cat at home.  When I walked into the room to meet the couple, Captain was lying on the wife's lap like jello.  I knew immediately that Captain had found his "one".

Everyone is probably asking why didn't I just adopt Captain?  Unfortunately, timing isn't always right when you meet "the one".  Recently, I took a new job.  With that came working more hours.

I felt like I had to chose between keeping Captain or fostering more cats.  I knew Captain would find someone else who would love him as much as I do and I know I can make a difference in this world by fostering.

So tonight I'll cry both sad and happy tears.  Tomorrow, I'll start saving the world again one kitten at a time.

Kitten Bowl Party

Gus:  Things are wild and crazy here at Purr's Training Acatemy as we have our first annual Kitten Bowl party!

Opal isn't sure if she is  football fan.

Captain is quite the party animal!

Captain decided to start up his own game!

Aspen wants to get in on the action!

Pearl is cheering on the Orange Fluffballs!

Aspen is looking for an open receiver!

Captain with the interception!

When he thinks no one is looking, Captain tries to deflate the ball.

That's a penalty!  Where is my yellow flag?

It figures that Captain stole it!

The Orange Fluffballs fail to convert on fourth down.

It's Captain's ball and he scores!  TOUCHDOWN CAPTAIN!

Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

Lots Going On!

Gus:  Wow!  We are so busy here at Purr's Training Acatemy.  There is a LOT going on!

First of all, Captain had surgery to remove his eye on Friday.  Some of the ulcers on his eye were healing but there were also new ones.  The awesome vets at Great Plains SPCA thought it would be a chronic condition and that he would feel so much better without that eye.  The Mama brought him home today.  He has a funny looking cone around his head.  Pearl thinks he looks like an alien and hides from him.  I may or may not agree with her.  We can tell he is already feeling better.  We thought he was a brat before the surgery but now he is out of control!  There is a reason we graduate kittens before they reach this age.  They have way too much energy for us!

Then we have two new students - Aspen and Opal. They were part of a feral cat colony.  They are extremely shy and super scared.  The Mama is going to have to train these two.  They may have FeLV so we aren't allowed to interact with them.

Well, on to Selfie Sunday.  All the minions students are submitting their selfies today.  I hope you don't mind that they had a little help.  Aspen and Opal are scared of everything and Captain has a cone on his head.

V-E-T for Captain

Gus:  Captain had to go to the V-E-T today.  He came home smelling awful!  I hate vet smells.

Anyway, the vet said there were changes in his eye but it is too early to tell if it is actually healing.  Changes are good.  For the first couple weeks he was at the shelter there weren't any changes at all.  They did say he wasn't as cooperative this time so we are thinking he is feeling a little better.  He has also been keeping his eye open a lot more.  So for now, we will keep doing what we have been doing.

Captains Week at Work

Gus:  Since Captain has to have 4 different medicines in his eye 3 times a day, he gets to go to work with the Mama every day.  He is a little younger than her normal interns but she isn't breaking any kitten labor laws so I guess it is OK.

When the Mama isn't in meetings, Captain usually sits on her lap.
"Zzzzzzzz...."

Sometimes though, he has to double check her work!
"Yep! This looks good!"

He is making new friends.
"Hiya, Walter!  How's your day going?"

Like most kittens, his favorite subject in school is lunch!  That's not the way I would get to my food bowl, but hey, whatever works!

Unfortunately, Captain had a little mishap Friday.  He rolled right off the desk.  Luckily, he wasn't hurt!  But he did wake up quickly!

He decided to sleep on the floor after that!

Introducing Captain!

Gus:  We would like to introduce you to our newest student - Captain!

No, Captain isn't winking at you.  Captain has an ulcer on his eye that isn't healing very quickly.   It hurts so he tries to keep it closed when he can. Captain is attending our school while it heals.  Well, hopefully it heals.  There has been some talk about r-e-m-o-v-a-l.  Hopefully, that won't happen.  Although, Captain might be ok with it gone.  1.  It won't hurt anymore.  2. He likes the pirate look.

What do you think?  Would you adopt a pirate kitty?
