Adoption Selfies on Monday

Gus:  Someone (looking at Mama) was slacking over the weekend and we missed the Sunday Selfies.
We have some exciting adoption selfies.  Both Alexa and Erica were adopted this weekend!

All of the Kansas City Royal Kittens have been adopted!!!  But I still can't seem to get rid of them.  Dani now Bellatrix and Purrez now Pippen are staying with us.  Their new mom is on vacation so we are kitten sitting.  Only one more day and then we are kitten free.  Bring on semester break!

Pippen and Bellatrix

The most exciting adoption though was that of Pearl's boyfriend and Mama's intern, Ebony.   Ebony was adopted after almost 600 days in the shelter!

The volunteers had a Going Home Party for Ebony where there were lots of happy tears.

And lots of hugs!
Ebony was ready to go home!  He got in the carrier all by himself.
Ebony left in style - riding shotgun in a convertible on a beautiful, fall, Kansas City day!

And they all lived happily ever after!

Mama's Intern - Ebony

Pearl:  OH MY COD, KITTIES!  You will never guess who is the Mama's intern this week.

That's right!  It's EBONY!  Yes, the same Ebony that we've talked about before.  Yes the same Ebony I have a huge crush on.

I know!  I have no idea either how a handsome mancat like Ebony is STILL available for adoption at Great Plains SPCA.

590 days in a shelter (no matter how amazing that shelter is) is far too long for anyone.

Can you help us help Ebony find a home?

Ebony's office skills are exceptional!  Today, Ebony was helping Mama with user acceptance testing of the software she is working on.

Ebony has exceptional social media skills.  He has a Facebook page and is on LinkedIn.

If you would like to help Ebony and the other animals at Great Plains SPCA, please consider making a donation.  In 2011, Great Plains SPCA served 10,000 animals.  In 2014, they served 35,000.  Donations did not increase proportionally.  They are now in crisis and need your help.  Any amount will help make a difference in the lives of homeless pets.

Extreme Cattery Makeover - Fall Edition

We are having a Fall Edition of Extreme Cattery Makeover at Great Plains SPCA.  Volunteers are decorating the cat play rooms with various fall related themes.  The Mama volunteered to decorate one of the rooms in a Halloween theme.  The residents of the room, Cider, Pringle, Opie, and Potus, loved the decorations and had a blast with the new toys.  One of the most coveted items in the room is the Haunted House Scratcher from Target.  Pringle claimed it and decided he was not going to share.

Mama's Intern - Reeses

Gus:  This week Mama's intern was a cool cat named Reeses.  Reeses is available for adoption at Great Plains SPCA's Merriam Campus.

Reeses is one goofy cat!  His crazy antics amused everyone in the office.

He sure had some crazy sleeping positions!

Boy, does he have a loud purr motor!

Reeses spent a good part of his work week supervising from above.

He had to supervise Walter the dog as well.

Not to mention, trying his balancing skills on the tops of the cubicles.

Reeses has A LOT of energy.  Having an office to run around in was great fun for him.  He can't wait until he has a big home to run around in.

Reeses loves people!  He was always sad to see his co-workers go home for the evening.

But he was always really happy when they came back the next morning!

Reeses will definitely make someone a great cat!  If you are looking for some entertainment, go to Great Plains SPCA in Merriam to meet Reeses!

Uncle Lexus

There is a cat at Great Plains SPCA named Lexus.  Lexus has such a nurturing personality.  The volunteers have nicknamed him Uncle Lexus.  Lexus takes shy or rambunctious kittens under his wing and teaches them the kitty ropes.

This week, the Mama introduced Lexus to Asha.  Asha is the last of the Furreign Exchange Students and has yet to be adopted.  Asha has been sad and lonely all by herself in a kennel.

"Don't worry Asha.  I'll take care of you."  - Lexus
Lexus started grooming Asha right away.

Asha couldn't get enough of Lexus's lovin, but Lexus wasn't the only cat that took a notice to Asha.

Cider couldn't wait to play hide and seek with her.

Cider was seen grooming her as well.  Is there a love triangle forming?

Lexus has a great track record of his kitten proteges being adopted.  Will Asha be next?  Will Asha decide she prefers Cider's playfulness?  Will Lexus decide to retire and find a family of his own?   Stay tuned to As the World Purrs...

Love at a Cat Show

Gus:  The Mama fell in love...again.  This weekend she volunteered at a cat show.  Great Plains SPCA had a booth at the show and brought five adoptable cats each day.  Because the show was in Missouri, they took cats from their Independence, MO location that Mama had never met.

One of the cats was Freddie.  Freddie is a lovely senior lady and quite the character.

At the show, Freddie helped sell t-shirts.  After all, who wouldn't want a t-shirt with Freddie fur?

Freddie walked around the show greeting everyone.  She did great walking on a harness for the first time.

Freddie handed out literature about Great Plains SPCA.

The best part of Freddie's day was when she was adopted!  Thanks heavens!  I'm glad the Mama didn't bring her home.

Congratulations, Freddie!
